Why would Mercedes owners have a separate dashcam installed?
This Mercedes EQA EV can be specced up with Augmented Reality using the MBUX system that gives camera / visibility around the car. You can then enable these to be used as a dashcam system for an extra fee with Mercedes.
After paying for Mercedes augmented reality (mainly with premium plus models) you would then need to also pay to enable the front facing camera to be used similar to a dashcam, the cost for this can be an extra £200 plus.
How good is a Mercedes built in dashcam?
You will then need to have a good usb memory stick formatted and inserted into the spare usb slot. The front camera will record directly to the USB memory stick whilst driving but with a low resolution of 1280x720 (720p). This will record speed and date/time but unfortunately no audio recording or rear camera or parking mode (recording of impact / motion incidents whilst parked up).
The benefits of having a dedicated GNET or FineVu dashcam will give QHD HDR 2k resolution recording on the front camera and Full HD recording on the rear camera (QHD HDR 2k for FineVu). The field of view is 160 deg on the front with the rear being 150 deg, much wider that the built in Mercedes camera. There are many more benefits below.
