Why would Mercedes owners have a separate dashcam installed?
This Mercedes EQA EV can be specced up with Augmented Reality using the MBUX system that gives camera / visibility around the car. You can then enable these to be used as a dashcam system for an extra fee with Mercedes.
After paying for Mercedes augmented reality (mainly with premium plus models) you would then need to also pay to enable the front facing camera to be used similar to a dashcam, the cost for this can be an extra £200 plus.
If you also wanted a speed cam detection unit, you would be paying for something in the region of £300 to £500 and then probably have to purchase a speed camera subscription service, around £200 for 3 years.
Thats quite a spend!
How good is a Mercedes built in dashcam?
You will then need to have a good usb memory stick formatted and inserted into the spare usb slot. The front camera will record directly to the USB memory stick whilst driving but with a low resolution of 1280x720 (720p). This will record speed and date/time but unfortunately no audio recording or rear camera or parking mode (recording of impact / motion incidents whilst parked up).
The benefits of having a dedicated FineVu dashcam will give Quad HDR 2k resolution recording on the front camera and Quad HDR 2k recording on the rear camera. The field of view is also much wider that the built in Mercedes camera. There are many more benefits below.

Speed Camera Detector
The speed camera detection function that is built in to the GX1000 is asbolutely brilliant. We have the GX1000 installed and it is invaluable when you are travelling on roads that you may not be familiar with. The GX1000 gives you ample notice if you are in a mobile camera hotspot location, average speed zone, traffic camera etc. The database is updated regularly direct through the FineVu App too.
* Parking mode recording time may vary depending on vehicle usage and the low battery protection will power the camera's down at a safe levels. if you leave your vehicle for long periods of time and/or wish to have longer parking recording then we advise extra battery units to be installed by ourselves unless its an EV where you can benefit from 24/7 video recording all around your vehicle with hardly any detriment to your miles remaining.
